Fireweed in Bloom: Mountain Biking at Galbraith

My home in Bellingham is just across the street from Galbraith Mountain, one of the premier mountain biking destinations in Washington.

Although I'm hardly a mountain biker (especially by Bellingham standards), being able to hit the trails in a matter of minutes is pretty hard to beat. So, I was quick to say yes when friends asked if I'd be up for a midweek sunset ride and photo shoot at Galbraith.

Our timing couldn't have been better. The hillside was exploding with fireweed so tall in places that we couldn't see over it! On top of that, smoke from wildfires further east left a haze over the bay, which made for a surreal sunset.

We spent a few hours playing around at the Cedar Dust jump area and gawking at the scenery. Then it was time to hustle home just in time to avoid breaking out the headlamps.
